If anyone else suffers from depression? I suffer from bi-polar disorder and find it really helpful to excersize when I am depressed, however, it is often difficult to get motivated to do so when I feel this way. Do you have any suggestions? What gets you moving when your mind just says no?

I've had to live with clinical depression for many years, and been on medications for at least the last 12 years. Sometimes you just have to learn how to tell when it's the depression talking, and when it's really you. I go by how my body feels--if I've actually got aches and pains, then I might be willing to believe I need a day off from exercise. But if it's just that voice in my head saying, "Oh, what difference does it make anyway" I know that's the depression talking, and it's not my friend. I try to make a point of fighting that voice, the same way I would fight anyone else trying to do me harm.
Doing make us feel better when we're down, and not doing it will make us feel worse. Sounds too simple to "forget" or ignore, doesn't it? But we do. It's almost as if we want to feel bad, on some level, so we refuse to do the exercise we know will make us feel better.

One of my friends just made himself to start his ususal excersize every time he felt depressed. He made it again and again till it grew into a habit. Now he has no problems with depression. He is quite happy now.
