Try a light carbohydrate snack no sooner than an hour before the event. See how much time is better for digestion and energy.

There are some general rules of nutrition prior to exercise or sport events. but they really vary from person to person. Experiment with various carbohydrates to see what works well for you: a banana, bagel, cup of food that give you quick energy and digest quickly.
